Evaluation Question 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

My target audience for my magazine is male and female teenagers/young adults. I have aims the target magazine at people who are interested in indie pop/rock music. I feel that this audience is appropriate for a magazine as it is very current and indie bands are beginning to get much more attention. I think that the audience for my magazine would obviously be bug music fans, as they would not be spending money specifically on a music magazine if they were not.
When looking in more detail at my target audience I think it is important that people featured in my magazine are very 'on trend' and 'fashionable to suit the genre else this is not going to appeal to this particular social group, for example the layout and style of my magazine would be completely different if it was aimed at a hip hop or pop audience.
I think the male gaze plays an important part in what defines my target audience as stereotypically an attractive person should be included on the front of a magazine. I have included attractive models on the front on my magazine to define that my target audience is not just women. I want girls to look at my models and thier clothes, style etc. to appeal to them and then on the other hand I want them to be attracted to a male audience.
I think my target audience is mostly working and middle class, as I don't particularly think that my magazine is expensive and most people will be able to afford this. The clothes that my models were are all from Topshop, H&M and all high street stores so this again helps to determine the target audience, probably aiming more towards middle class.
Both models I have used are white and middle class; however, I don't feel that this will limit my audience to just one racial group.
  • Here is an example of someone that could possibly be of my target audience:

Age: 17
Music Intrests Two door cinema club, The Pigeon detectives, White Lies, Florence and the Machine, The Drum, The Kooks...

Fashion Interests Topshop, Wardrobe, Vintage shops...

Tv Interests The Inbetweeners, Celebrity Juice, MTV, Mock the Week...

Magazine Interests NME, Q, Vogue...

Radio Interests Radio 1

Icons/Celbrity Influences Florence Welch, Fearne Cotton, Alexa Chung, Ellie Goulding...

I have used this style clothing on my models to appeal to the audience.
