Evaluation Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Phone

Throughout this task I used my phone to get in contact wit my models etc. and to organise the times that I was going to take pictures. I found this useful obviously because I needed to organise the photographs around the time that my models have.

I also learned that my phone is a really useful way of uploading images onto my computer and then my blog etc. I didn't use my phone to take my photographs of models, as the digital camera produced better quality images. I used my phone in a way that i wouldn't of necessarily done before as I uploaded to images using a USB lead.

Animoto

Before starting this project, I had not heard of animoto and therefore did not know what it was about. However, when it was suggested that I use it I have learned that it is a good and useful way of representing my media project visually. I used it at the beginning of the project to present a mood board and also in this evaluation. I have also learned that it is more suitable for images as not many words can be included.

Microsoft Office Word/Powerpoint

Because of this project, I have used these tools in ways that I most likely wouldn't have before. I have used Microsoft Word along with Scribd and this has taught me that it can be a very useful way of presenting work, which I had not realised before. Again, with Microsoft Office Powerpoint, I obviously had already realised that this tool is designed for presentations but I had not realised that it could be used alongside other tools such as slide share, so that the presentation can be shared interactively. Over all when looking at these two pieces of technology, I don't think that I used any tools that I hadn't before, I did however learn to use them in a different way and alongside other technologies. I have also used Microsoft Office Word for simple things such as copy and pasting blogger posts to check the spelling of them.

Adobe Photoshop

Throughout this project, I have learned the most about this piece of technology. Before the project I had very limited experience with Photoshop and could only import images. However, now that this project is finished I feel I have a firm knowledge of the majority of tools that are available. I have learned how to edit images (colours, crop, lighting, sharpness etc.) change and remove background, insert text etc. When I first started using Abdobe photoshop I found it difficult to work out how to use all of the tools especially the layers. However, I have learned that it does take time to work out this piece of software but it is very effective once you have.

Blogger

Again, I had not heard of this software before starting this project and also I found this piece of technology quite difficult to understand when I first used, however I had used it previously to coursework with my theory blog so by the time I made my theory blog I was familiar with Blogger. I feel that I have extended my knowledge on my coursework blog however through the use of uploading videos, customising the appearance of te blog to match the genre and suit the theme of my magazine. I also learned how to change the layout of the blog.

Digital Camera

I used my digital camera to take the photographs of my models. Although I was quite familiar with this piece of equipment before the project, I learned that camera angles and positions will determine whether a photograph is flattering and professional looking. I also learned more about the settings on my camera and the differences between the settings e.g. light, dark.

Laptop

Throughout the project I did not use my laptop for the making in the magazine as it doesn’t not have Photoshop on it, however I did the majority of the planning and research on my own laptop. I have found that I am much more confident using blogger from home and also I think that my researching skills have improved.

Prezi,Scribd & Slideshare

These three pieces of software, again, I had never heard of before the project and individually I learned how to use all of them. I found Prezi difficult to use to begin with and slightly confusing but again after I had took the time to work it out I realised that I could use it quite easily. With all three of these pieces of software I feel the main thing I learned was how to embed them onto my blog.
